RESIDENTIAL / COMMERCIAL
Most homeowners figure they need a new roof after they spot a leak in their ceiling. Other signs that indicate you may need a re-roof include:
RESIDENTIAL
COMMERCIAL
The age of your roof.
A typical roof will last between 20 and 25 years. If your roof was installed over another layer or several layers of asphalt shingles and is older than 20 years, chances are you need a new roof.
Curled or buckled shingles.
Shingles that are curled or buckled are shingles that are past their life expectancy. Curled shingles can also point to a defective roof.
Cracked or lifted shingles.
Cracked shingles are typically a result of wind damage. A cracked or lifted shingle is highly susceptible to breaking off and exposing the unprotected roof deck to the elements.
Missing shingles in the roof valley.
Valleys are one of the most important areas of your roof. If your roof shingles are falling apart or missing in this area, it’s a definite sign you need a new roof.
Shingle granules in the gutters.
Roofs tend to lose more granules toward the end of their life cycle. Inconsistent or darker colour on some parts of the roof is another sign the granules have worn away.
You can see sunlight from your attic.
If light can get in, so can rain, cold air, and snow.
The roof has a spongy feel.
If you notice a spongy feel or trampoline bounce when walking on the roof, this means the underlying decking is weakened from moisture and your roof needs to be replaced — fast.
STEEL ROOF INSTALL
A steel (or metal) roof is an asset and investment for your property. It is durable, beautiful and eco-friendly. It can increase your home’s value while also reducing your energy costs. A properly installed steel roofing system requires little maintenance, is not subject to rot, mould, high winds or insect infestation, won’t burn, and will last decades longer than most other roofing alternatives.

At Roofing Done Right we are uncompromising when it comes to our steel roof installations, and carry only Vicwest Metal Roofing and Steel Building Systems.
Vicwest offers two main types of metal roofs — exposed fastener and concealed fastener (standing seam) panels — as well as stone coated steel roofing profiles in a broad spectrum of traditional and designer colours.
All metal roofing packages feature coordinating trims, fasteners, closures, caulking and flashings — everything our trained technicians require for proper installation. Vicwest Metal Roofing contains recycled material and is 100% recyclable at the end of its life span.
Preparing for a Steel Roof Installation
When considering a steel roof installation, Roofing Done Right recommends fully removing any existing shingles and associated roofing materials. This helps prepare the roof deck for the addition of a non-permeable synthetic membrane, which is laid down before a new metal roofing system is installed. For those customers wishing to leave their existing asphalt shingles in place, Roofing Done Right will fasten wood strapping at intervals over the entire roof in preparation for the steel roof installation.

SEAMLESS GUTTERS
Also known as continuous gutters, seamless gutters are manufactured from a single piece of material. They have not been partitioned into sections and, therefore, do not require any sealing at the joints or seams. This makes them long-lasting, leak-resistant and low maintenance compared to regular gutters.

ROOF REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE
Whether you have missing shingles, damaged flashing, problems around your chimney, or leaks throughout your roof, we can help!
Our technicians are regularly called upon to correct and repair some of the most common roofing mistakes and workmanship errors found in the industry.

Regular maintenance and inspection by Roofing Done Right can help locate deficient conditions when they are small and fixable rather than big and costly. We recommend annual inspections (as a minimum) for every roof system. To perform an annual inspection, our roof inspectors walk over the entire roof area looking for and photographing all observed deficiencies. These observations are then noted on an inspection form along with recommended maintenance procedures.
In addition to roof repairs and maintenance, we also provide insurance and property restoration partners with snow and ice damming removal, blow-off repairs, leak discovery and repairs, temporary repairs, and inspection reports.
SOFFIT FASCIA AND SIDING
The siding is the protective material attached to the exterior side of a wall of a house.
The fascia is the horizontal band that is exposed at the end of the rafters, along the bottom of the roof. Its purpose is to form a horizontal support for the bottom edge of the shingles or tiles of the roof. An easy way to remember which part this is, is that the fascia faces out. The fascia is a transitional part between roof and trim.
The soffit is on the underside of the roof overhang and covers the part beneath the rafter tails. If you stand below the edge of the roof and look straight up, that is the soffit. The soffit is the element between your roof and your siding.

VELUX SKYLIGHTS
The amount of natural light a skylight lets in is up to five times that of a typical wall window. This can greatly reduce your dependence on costly electrical lights while reducing your environmental footprint. Skylights can also provide much needed ventilation.
In addition to skylights, we also carry sun tunnels. A relatively new product on the market, sun tunnels are perfect for darker areas of your home where a traditional skylight won’t work.
Note: Skylights should always be replaced when the roofing system is replaced. Some roofing contractors rather than replacing the skylight when the roofing system is replaced simply reuse the skylight. Typically, this causes problems a year or two down the road.
All our roofing technicians have attended a VELUX seminar and hands-on-workshop to learn the proper and most up-to-date installation practices.
